Techniques, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

We use visual examination, study models and X-rays to plan our treatments.  X-ray techniques include small intra-oral images, which give detailed local information about the bone and adjacent teeth. Ortho-pantomo-graphs [O.P.G.] supply information about the whole mouth and jaws. We have the facilities in our practice for these panoramic-like views.

In some cases we commission special scans from specialist imaging centres.  We take into account radiation, cost, and time before referring for this service. Although the information gained would be useful for all cases, it is not always indicated when considering relative health gains. (The information gained must exceed the health/financial cost)  Full mouth computer aided tomography scans [C.T.Scans] currently cost about £230 and subject the patient to more radiation than conventional radiographic methods at the practice.
