Dear Enquirer,
I
established this practice in 1970, determined to offer an efficient
and effective service at good value fees.
Since graduation I had been
aware of the anxiety many people have about Dentistry and the apprehension
they have prior to having treatment. Like my namesake William Morton,
the American Dentist who discovered anaesthesia, I had an early interest
in anaesthesia and sedation, and have offered this to all nervous
patients. Techniques have evolved into sedation only since then. They
are very safe and pleasant to experience. Once we have regained the
confidence of anxious patients we wean them off the techniques. They
are invariably proud to become "normal" patients.
Another interest of mine has been Implantology. Since 1974 I have
been offering titanium implants to replace lost teeth. At this time
few Universities were teaching Dental Implants so we were one of the
earliest practices to pioneer these treatments.
Since then we have grown into one of the largest practices in London.
I now have twelve Associates who all share my philosophy of patient
care with an enthusiastic team of 16 nurses who help them and our
patients at all stages of the visits. Our surgeries are spacious and
well equipped, mixing the Georgian style of our building with high
tech systems. Our forecourt parks about nine cars at a time reserved
for our clients. My
son Alex joined the practice in 1996 after seven years of postgraduate
study, with Membership of two Faculties of the Royal College of
Surgeons, a Diploma in Dental Sedation, and a Master of Science
in Implantology, he is well placed to carry on the family tradition.
All
my other colleagues have special interest and expertise in other
aspects of care, so we are able to offer a very comprehensive service
within our practice and have carefully selected appropriate external
colleagues to refer patients requiring specialist care.
Our
practice motto is " Do it once and do it well", and our
fee schedule is fair. I
believe the size of our practice reflects our success and is a testimony
to our philosophy. If you try us I am confident you will be glad
you did so.
Yours Sincerely,

Dr
A. R. Morton
Dr Anthony Morton
BDS (OTAGO NZ) GDC Number
40261
Graduated from Otago university in New Zealand in 1962, with distinction in General Surgery. After one
year in Hamilton N.Z. he moved to Woollongong N.S.W. Australia, where
he managed the largest practice in Australia for one year, and was the only dentist in Australia offering intravenous sedation. Following
this he went to New Guinea as head of Dental Dept. at Port Moresby
Hospital.
He arrived in London in 1965 and practiced as an associate in Hanwell
for three years before buying the four surgery practice. He later
bought and managed practices in West Ealing, South Ealing and Haven
Green. The smaller practices have been sold recently and he is now
only at Haven Green.
In 1978 he founded The Confederation of Dental Employers, C.O.D.E., and
was its chairman until 1995. The organisation, which is still thriving,
is an association for practice owners to help them with all aspects
of management. Steering the organisation involved developing contracts
with lawyers for dental employment, and financial advice
and techniques to promote practice viabilty. At the time the BDA did not deal adequately
with the business aspect of practice so they had to be actively lobbied
to change their stance.
He resigned as C.O.D.E.'s chairmain in 1995 when all the original aims set out seventeen years
earlier had been achieved. In 1990 he was elected chairman of the Local Dental
committee for Ealing, Hammersmith and Hounslow and served as representative
for West London for a decade on the General Dental Service Committee.
During this time he was elected onto the Practice Organisation sub-committee
of this body which was the chief negotiating committee for the British
Dental Association.
He was appointed media representative for the BDA and also as a dental
spokesman for Sky. He is a long term member of the BDA, SAAD [Society
for Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry], ADI [Association of
Dental Implantology] and has regularly attended post-graduate courses
in these subjects as well as all branches of general dentistry.
His main roles are managing the Practice and caring for very nervous patients.
His interests include ocean racing, swimming, tennis, horticulture, and guitar.
